On 5th September 2014, the National Heart Research Institute Singapore (NHRIS) was launched. The research institute is a collaboration between the National Heart Centre Singapore and Duke–NUS. With this new launch, cardiovascular research will receive an added boost, especially in the areas of heart function, genetics, metabolic heart diseases and other important themes. This in turn, will translate into advancements into the treatment of heart diseases—the leading cause of death in the world. Under the leadership of Professor Stuart Cook, renowned cardiology research expert, the 4,000-square-metre institute looks set to positively influence and improve the way heart diseases are treated with patient-centered research.
